Keke Rosberg's racing biography

Keijo Erik Rosberg was born in December 6, 1948 in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden. He is Finnish former formula one driver and the 1982 world champion. He made his debut in formula one at the age of 29, after competing in formula Vee, formula Atlantic and formula 2. His first dive in formula one was with Theodore team in 1978. He had a suberb performance in a non-championship race at BRDC International Trophy in Silverstone, in just his second race with the team, emerging victorious after many of the big names had been caught out by a tremendous downpour. Not being able o qualify for a race afterwards, Rosberg was signed by ATS which was also uncompetitive. He returned to Theodore again after they acquired old chassis from the Wolf formula 1 team, but these where also uncompetitive and he returned to ATS again at the end of the season.

In 1979 he signed with the Wolf team. But Rosberg had problems finishing his races with the car. He had to change teams again when the Wolf team left formula one and Rosberg signed with the Fittipaldi Automotive. He scored scored his first point in 1980 including his first podium, but often he failed to finish the race and even failed to qualify. Next season, in 1981 he was not able toscore at all.

Despite his bad season in 1981 Williams signed Rosberg in 1982. Having a competitive car Rosberg consistently scored points, and took his first victoryin the Swiss Grand Prix at Dijon-Prenois. Rosberg was unstopable that year, though it sould be mensioned that Ferrari's season was ruined after injuries of Didier Pironi and the tragic accident that coused Gilles Villeneuve's life. Keke Rosberg won the drivers championship that season. Next year Rosberg didn't have a competitive car and Hond engines were unreliable. Ironically the Honda engines began producing regular results after Rosberg left Williams for Mclaren in the mid 1985. Rosberg's pole position-winning lap at that year's British Grand Prix stood as the fastest lap in the history of formula one unil 2001. Williams dominated in 1987 with Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell benefiting had done to develop the engine in conjunction with Honda. However Rosberg found himself in an underpowered McLaren, was beaten by teammate Alain Prost and retired from formula one at the end of the season. Later he admited he retired too soon.

Rosberg made his comeback in 1989 when he entered the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in a Ferrari Mondial. After that he moved to the DTM driving for Mercedes-Benz and Opel. Here he started his own team in 1995 and at the end of that year he withdrew from driving to concentrate on running it. Keke Rosberg competed in 128 races and five of them. He had 17 podium finishes, five pole positions and 3 fastest laps. He competed in formula one from 1978 till 1986, with six deferent teams and won one world championship title.
