
Nelson Piquet Souto Maior was born in August 17, 1952, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Piquet was formula one world champion in 1981, 1983 and 1987 and he is one of the few drivers to win at least three world championships in formula one. Nelson Piquet was the son of a Brazilian government minister who did not approve of his racing career, and for this reason he was forced to use his mother's maiden name Piquet. After succeding in the Brazilian go-karting and local super-V 1976 Piquet went to British formula three and broke Jackie Stewart's record of most wins in a season. After that he was promoted to fomrula one an d won the title in 1981 nad 1983 being the first driver to win the title with a turbo engine.

In 1986 he joined Williams alongside Nigel Mansell. Two top drivers in the same team. They both went head to head for he title, but although the two drove the best cars on the grid their rivalry caused each to deprive the other of points, allowing Alain Prost to steal the championship title. Piquet managed to win the next year's championship in 1987. In 1988 his career took a dive. After joining Lotus his reputation started to fade as he could not win any races and even failed to qualifyon one. In 1990 he joined Benetton and returned to the top, AftEr making wins and winning the last race of his formula one career in Montreal 1991.
Nelson Piquet won three world champion titles, in 1981, 1983 and 1987. He competed in 207 races and won 23 of them. He had 60 podium finishes, 24 pole positions and 23 fastest laps. He gathered a total 484,5 points in his formula one career.
