The Turkish race may have had some surprising incidents, but apart from them it has been a boring race. And this is because, although many teams started the season with promising results, there are only two teams that, as it looks, will be fighting for the championship.
After the end of the Turkish F1 Grand Prix it is obvious that Red Bull Racing and McLaren have the quickest cars. And they are quickest by far. Red Bull is in a slightly better position, but continuous mechanical failures (previous races) or some foolish driving mistakes, prevented the team from scoring more points and take an easy lead in the championship.
On the other hand, McLaren has made a big step forward, especially by fully utilizing the F-Duct system on its cars. Also the team's drivers, especially Button, help very much by driving steadily fast. A problem that has to be taken care of is Hamilton and his behavior against his tyres.
Ferrari is falling behind and we could see this during this weekend, as Alonso could not even make it to the top ten in the grid during qualification, while Massa only managed to be slightly quicker than his teammate. The Spaniard had a big problem passing Petrov's Renault, or even other slower cars. Let's hope that they will come up with a solution immediately in order to have a chance to catch up with the others.
Renault and Mercedes team have improved, but they still need to find this extra something that will allow them to join the leading teams speedwise.
Force India is undoubtedly the nice surprise of the season, scoring points consistently, in almost every race. We would be to strict to ask anything more from this team for this season. We can expect them to be even better during the next one.
Williams has fallen "ages" back, and the historic team is now struggling for some points. Low budget and engine performance are the main problems, and few things can be done to improve. Barichello is helping as much as he can, giving his valuable experience, sir Frank is also trying to fix management issues, but the situation is difficult and they fall behind race by race.
Torro Rosso and Sauber are also in the same group as Williams, while the rest of the teams seem to exist on the grid only to provide others with moving obstacles, showing that it takes much more than just will, or a millionaire's money to have a chance in the world of F1 racing.
So It seems that Red Bull and McLaren are moving ahead, forming a group of two, that will be fighting against eachother for the championship.
Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault are right behind them, forming the second group, that can challenge a couple of victories during the season, but they will be able to challenge the championship only if the first two face trouble.
The third group consists of Williams, STR, and Sauber. Their goal is to score some points during this season and try to have a better luck next season. Force India is trying to move from this group to the other one and has managed to reach half way.
The fourth group includes Lotus, HRT and Virgin, which make us wonder if they should even be on the grid. OK maybe we are a bit strict on them by saying that, but the sure thing is that some things have to be evaluated before allowing teams to enter the championship. It is all about money of course, but noone needs 6 cars that are just moving inside the track, hoping for nothing. It would be better to have fewer teams with challenging cars. Still this is just a personal opinion.
The next race is going to take place in Canada in two weeks time. Big straights seem to be giving McLaren an advantage, due to the top speed factor, but we would like to see an answer from the teams of group 2 there, in order to spice up the championship a bit.
