Felipe Massa was first on the second day of testing in Barcelona on Wednesday as McLaren didn't race in the rain. The laps every driver completed was limited due to the rain. McLaren stated "Due to the wet weather conditions, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes test team will not be testing today in Barcelona".
Felipe Massa completed 46 laps with a best time of 1:30.673, beating Red Bull's Mark Webber by half a second. The Brazilian slid of the track on turn 12 but fortunately he did not cause any damage to his F2008 and manage to start running again afterwards.
Double world champion Fernando Alonso was about one second behind Felipe Massa, with 1:31.654 in 44 laps, which gave him the 5th place. "Another disrupted day and we did not do many laps. It was too wet in the morning to do any running so we waited until the afternoon. We did some laps and tried some things in the wet and it was a chance to get used to driving without traction control and to improve the behavior of the car in these conditions. Tomorrow the forecast is better; we have been waiting for these conditions all week, so fingers crossed," he said.
Nico Rosberg made a 1:31.963 before he crashed his car during the afternoon session. "That was only half a day's work for me today because the morning was too wet for us to gain anything from testing. In the afternoon we did some running in the wet conditions - first on heavy wet tyres, changing to standard wet tyres. The track conditions changed quite a lot as the track dried out but not enough. It was difficult to draw conclusions but we found a similar picture to the dry which will help us define where we concentrate our work. We have a few more days of testing to work out how to move forward so we will push hard," he said.
