Lewis Hamilton may be crowned the new formula one world champion this season according to his former teammate Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton made an impressive rookie season last year, after leading the championship for more than half of the season and finally lost it for one point to Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Hamilton did well at the last testing in Barcelona, as he was the fastest in the first two days of it, proving that his McLaren is competitive enough to give him the chance to fight for the title. Of course nothing is for sure until the season starts. According to double world champion Fernando Alonso, this year Hamilton will face an easier season as now he is more experienced and he has knowledge of the circuits. "After one year's experience things become easier and that will give him an advantage. After a year, you know all the circuits and how the races go. You understand the pressures so there are many things that will give him an advantage compared to last year," Alonso told the BBC.
When Alonso was asked if Hamilton coul win the title this season he answered: "Possibly yes. The two Ferraris and two McLarens will be able to fight for the Championship. But if I have to name one then Ferrari and Kimi because he is the world champion and will be the driver to beat. At the end of last year, Kimi had some very good final races, and was also lucky, to be World Champion being so far behind. But he has the self confidence and he is obviously very quick, so he has put himself in a very strong position."
Both the Ferraris and the McLarens seem to be in a good level and both able to fight for the championship. But lets not underestimate the BMW and other teams who seem to have made a big progress. Everything shows that it is going to be an very interesting season, considering the facts from the testing days in Barcelona. The Ferraris and the McLarens are certainly going to fight for the championship, and hopefully other teams will, as well.
