Ron Dennis may pay further for Stepneygate scandal - F1 News

McLaren boss Ron Dennis may find himself in a difficult situation, after it was claimed that Mercedes wants him to step down as team boss, as Mercedes are upset with Dennis for the Stepneygate spy scandal last year.

McLaren was fined £50 million and stripped off all of their constructor points, but the matter does not end there. The investigation continued in Italy and on Wednesday it moved to Britain, where Italian authorities raided McLaren's working offices, and also the homes of four executives, including Ron Dennis. According to sources Ron Dennis was at home when the officers arrived to investigate his house, but nothing was taken away. "Nobody took any paperwork from anybody's home because they looked at it and said there was absolutely nothing to worry about."

According to Marca MaLaren are 'tremendously angry' at Dennis for last year's Stepneygate spy scandal and blame the Brit for the hefty fine handed to McLaren. The report continued claiming that while Dennis is expected to sell his shares in the team, Mercedes, McLaren's largest shareholder, have told him to step down as team boss. 'A decision has been taken and will be made public in an official statement in the next few days', says the Marca report.

However McLaren remains quiet about this matter. They did not even confirm if Ron Dennis will still be team principal at the start of the season in Melbourne on March 16.
