Lewis Hamilton made a fantastic final lap, during the qualifying session on Saturday, and stole the pole position fromRobert Kubica, who came 2nd. Saturday's results were not as good as expected, for the Ferrari team, with Kimi Raikkonen coming in 3rd place and Felipe Massa in 6th. Raikkonen was frustrated by Ferrari's bad qualifying session.

Fernando Alonso made a surprise by taking the 4th place after the session, a feat worth mentioning, considering that Renault is not competitive at all this year. His teammate though, Nelson Piquet Jr, finds it hard to adjust to the car and the team as he didn't even qualify for Q3, and will start the race from the 15th position. Nico Rosberg came 5th, infront of Felipe Massa, who came a disappointing 6th. Heikki Kovalainen took the 7th place, with Nick Heidfeld completing the 4th row as he took the 8th place.
