Alonso managed to take a glorious pole in Hungary during the Saturday's qualification session. Although he is running very light, the fact that he will be starting from the first place is an advantage inside Hungaroring.
The qualification showed that most teams have improved a lot, and it is a sign (?) that we are going to have a great second half of the championship. McLaren is making a move towards improvement and so is Renault. Ferrari kept its good status. However Ferrari driver Felipe Massa had a terrible accident during the session, that attracted everyone's attention, leaving the qualification results at second.
The Brazilian lost control of his car on turn 4, right after he has been hit by the spring from the third damper on Rubens Barrichello's Brawn, which became loose. While driving at around 250 Km/h something hit him on the head and caused him to fall unconscious. He couldn't even make an effort to turn his car, which left the track straight on and crashed on the tyre barrier. Massa was immediately transferred to the hospital where the doctors performed an operation on his fractured skull. His condition was life threatening but stable, and we all wish him a quick recovery.
Of course Massa is not going to race on Sunday, but the news are that Ferrari is not going to use a replacement driver.
After a delay, as a result of the accident, qualification continued and the fight has been tough. With eight drivers within one second we can expect a great race for Sunday. Renault did great, Red Bull confirmed its great performance status, Williams showed some improvement and McLaren with Ferrari showed that they are going to be challenging.
