Kimi Raikkonen was the winner of the 2008 Spanish F1 race. He started the race from the pole position and stayed there until the end as he has not been threatened by anyone. This is the 8th consecutive season that the driver who starts the race from the pole takes the victory in the end.
Fernando Alonso did all he could do with his Renault but was unable to hold on to the second place, as he lost his position to Massa right in the first corner after the start of the race. However he could finish the race in P5 or P6, but his engine blew up leaving him out of the race in his homeland.
Massa was second after an easy race, ready to protect his teammate if this would be the case. The two Ferrari had total control of the race during the whole time, showing that they are the fastest team.
Hamilton also took an easy third place with Kubica right behind him. Webber, Button, Nakajima and Truli completed the points awarding places, with Button confirming that team Honda is on the right way.
There has been two incidents in the race. The one and more important took place on lap 24 when Kovalainen went straight on turn 9, after a tyre failure, with more than 220kmh. He crashed on the tyre barrier and destroyed the front side of the McLaren. He stayed in car for quite a long time causing everyone watching to worry about what happened to him. Thankfully he had been stretchered out of the track a few minutes later without any serious injuries.
The second incident happened somewhat later when Heidfeld went in pit to refuel his BMW, while the Safety Car was out. He was penalised with a 10sec stop and go, as the pit lane was closed at the time. The thing is that Nick Heidfeld had no other choice than doing what he did, as he was running out of fuel. The result was that his race was destroyed by a rule that needs to be changed and hopefully it is going to.
