Sebastian Vettel is the 2011 World Champion, as he managed to take P3 in the Japanese race today. The race winner has been Jenson Button, followed by Fernando Alonso. They both had a great race, outpacing Sebastian Vettel, but they were both "late" as it took them 14 races to do so. The championship title has been decided, with 4 more races to go.
Right after the red lights went off, Jenson Button seemed to have made a great start. However Sebastian Vettel pushed the Briton to the edge if the track. Button had to touch the grass and lost his place to Lewis Hamilton. The placement into turn one has been Vettel, Hamilton, Button, Massa, Alonso and Webber.
On lap 6, Fernando Alonso passed Felipe Massa, while two laps later Button managed to pass his team mate, as Hamilton opened the door for him, right before he entered the pits for his first tyre change. Vettel stopped on lap 10 for his tyre change, to take on another set of softs. Button and Alonso had been much faster than him at the time.
Button and Alonso along with Webber stopped a lap later. Button and Alonso managed to rejoin the race ahead of Hamilton. The race continued without any change at the top, until the second pit stop was close. At that time Button, who had kept his distance from Vettel stable, has been much quicker than Vettel. He seemed to be able to pass him by the time the third pit stop would come. Vettel stopped on lap 20 for his last set of softs, while Button enetered the pits a lap later and managed to pass Vettel.
On lap 24, the safety car has been deployed in order to clear the track of some particles, right before the final chicane. The particles probably came from Massa's car during his minor clash with Lewis Hamilton a couple of laps earlier. At the end of lap 27, safety car went out of the track restarting the race. Button was flying and with a set of fastest laps, increased the gap between him and Sebastian Vettel to more than two seconds, while Alonso seemed to be unable to keep up with them.
Sebastian Vettel was once again the first of the top drivers to make his third stop. He took on the harder tyre component. He rejoined in the middle of some heavy traffic in P11. Button stopped two laps later and Alonso two laps after that. The Spaniard rejoined the race ahead of Vettel.
During the final laps of the race we have seen a great battle between the top three drivers of the season, as Alonso was pushing Button, while Vettel was close behind him. The race ended with no change on top.
