Sebastian Vettel was the winner of the final qualification session that took place under the typical ever changing weather conditions of Spa. Lewis Hamilton had just completed the fastest lap just moments before Vettel crossed the line with a 1:48.298, 0.432sec ahead of the Briton. Both drivers completed their fastest laps after the chequered flag having already waved.
Behind them, Mark Webber took third place ahead of Felipe Massa, followed by Nico Rosberg and Jaime Alguersuari. Bruno Senne took 7th place in his first qualification for Lotus Renault in front of Fernando Alonso. Jenson Button only managed to take 13th place, while Michael Schumacher had to retire qualification as his rear right wheel came off.
With this pole, Sebastian Vettel has a chance to practically end the championship if he manages to win the race, considering that his rivals are behind him (far behind him in the case of Alonso). But we will have to see the weather tomorrow as the Belgian race has occasionally been making its own decisions about the outcome of a race.
