It was another weekend without rain and Red Bull pilots showed that the team is the quickest on track, one more time. However, the Monaco race this year did not come without any surprises and suspense.
Mark Webber started from the pole and remained there for the whole race, despite the safety car entered the track four times. Sebastian Vettel followed him comparatively easy, as both of them have been much faster than the competition.
The real race took place many places down the grid as Alonso started making his way up from last place. The Spaniard started attacking immediately after the start, and he was passing one driver after another, up to the 6th place. this was the last place to be decided after the race had started. All other positions ahead remained unchanged as they were at the first turn.
Robert Kubica had yet another great race, and kept Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton behind him, to take another podium finish at 3rd place.
On the final lap, all cars were behind the safety car, which entered the pit lane just before the final turn to the finish line. And there we have witnessed a thrilling finish. Alonso was caught asleep by the seven times world champion Michael Schumacher, who got aside him right on the safety car line, and passed him to grab 6th place. But this only lasted for a few minutes as the stewards decided that the overtaking was not valid, and awarded him with a 20sec penalty, that dropped him on place 12. Mercedes is about to appeal this decision so we can wait for that in the near future.
Other than that the race has been another boring race, with no fighting, as it is usual in Monaco. We can understand that it is a historic race in the F1 calendar, but noone can find interest in a race decided completely by the starting grid and/or any mechanical failures that can alter the result. We are ready to go to the next race in Turkey, hoping to watch an interest race there.
