Sebastian Vettel took another easy victory in Monza, after a race that was interesting in everything else than the first place. His pace has been great throughout the race, and after the first few laps he has not been challenged by anyone. At the end of the race he was driving on "auto pilot", keeping his 15sec difference between him and Jenson Button.
The German pilot proved once more that his skills, combined with an excellent car is unbeatable and at least one step ahead of his rivals at any time. His consecutive wins, along with his car's demonic reliability combined with his lack of mistakes are causing the 2011 championship to end prematurely.
Right after the red lights went off, Hamilton seemed to have started better than Vettel, but it was Alonso who had made the best start. The result was the Spaniard making to the first turn in first place. A spectacular start from P4, for the Spaniard.
Behind them there was chaos, with Liuzzi loosing control of his car and causing many cars to spin and crash on each other. Petrov, Rosberg, D'Ambrosio have been victims of this situation.
The safety car has been deployed at that point. Alonso was leading, followed by Vettel, Hamilton, Schumacher, Massa and Button. Mark Webber was down to 7th place after another of his bad start series.
Right after the restart of the race, Michae Schumacher made a successful move on Lewis Hamilton for the third place. Vettel also passed Alonso for the lead at the second chicane. It has been a great overtaking with the two drivers cornering side by side through Lesmo turns. A bit earlier, Mark Webber lost his front wing after a contact with Felipe Massa at the first chicane. Mark Webber retired at the end of the lap, during his effort to reach his pit, as he lost control of his car at parabolica turn.
On lap 13 Lewis Hamilton managed to pass Michael Schumacher, only to lose his place again to the German a few meters later. McLaren had a clear problem with its top speed, as the engine was reaching max rpm right after the DRS was enabled, thus minimizing Hamilton's gain. Up in front, Vettel was breaking one lap record after another, increasing his gap and heading to what seemed to be an easy victory.
Jenson Button was also stuck behind Schumacher and Hamilton. Button managed to pass Lewis Hamilton, but Schumacher was holding his position in a great way. Button finally passed Schumacher at Ascari. He made it easily, proving that probably he had a different setup than his teammate.
After the first pit stop round, the only change has been Button in front of Schumacher. Hamilton found himself stuck behind Schumacher again. His gearbox choice has clearly been wrong.
Lewis Hamilton finally made it past Schumacher, on lap 26, at Ascari chicane. Jenson Button was right behind Alonso with the Briton being on a very good pace.
After the second pit stop round, Jenson Button managed to pass Fernando Alonso at Curva Grande for P2.
During the final laps, the only battles remaining were the ones between Senna and Buemi, with the Brazilian passing Buemi 6 laps before the end for P9. Hamilton also tried to put some pressure on Fernando Alonso, but there was not enough time to complete his attack.
