Vettel managed to take the pole position after a very close battle that took place in Valencia circuit between him and his teammate Mark Webber.
Vettel managed to take the pole while running on the optional softer tyres. His teammate Mark Webber also did the same and managed to get second place. Lewis Hamilton finished the session in third place, after a small mistake caused him to loose the opportunity of separating or even beat the Red Bulls.
Ferrari showed up in good shape and its drivers got fourth and fifth place, with Alonso and Massa respectively. Kubica had another good qualification session finishing sixth, followed by Jenson Button. The surprise came from Williams which managed to have both its cars in top ten. The last driver among the top ten is Vitaly Petrov with the other Renault.
Mercedes has been the negative surprise with none of its drivers being able to make it to the top 10. Rosberg outpaced Michael Schumacher once more and it seems that the German multi - champion, is trying to find his lost speed. It seems that the championship challengers have started making a gap with the rest of the grid. Webber, Vettel, Hamilton, will be fighting for the top, while ALonso and Button will have few more chances to outpace them in order to get back on the top of the points table, and have a good chance of winning the title.
