Webber was the winner of the Hungarian grand prix. Starting from second place, and having lost his place after the start, this was a great result the put him on the lead of the championship as we head into the summer brake.
After the lights went off for the race start, Sebastian Vettel managed to turn first at the first corner. Behind him Fernando Alonso overtook Mark Webber for P2, while an incredible Vitaly Petrov, took advantage of Hamilton being stuck between Massa and Webber and overtook the Briton for P4.
A few laps later, Hamilton got ahead of the Russian driver, as Petrov made a mistake and slightly slipped his back. The situation remained like this until a front wing that came from a Force India, caused the Safety Car to be deployed. All drivers apart from Mark Webber and Rubens Barichello made their pit stops.
Durimg the pit stops, The only change to the top has been Hamilton passing Massa for P4, only to stop his race a few laps later due to a mechanical failure. Of course Mark Webber got into the lead as he did not have a pit stop.
The race continued with many changes. Sebastian Vettel was handed a drive through penalty, as he fell far behind the safety car (more than 10 cars length in distance), before the restart of the race, in an effort to protect his teammate. The result was that Alonso got in front of him in P2.
At that point it seemed that Alonso would get ahead of Webber, after that Australian's pit stop. However, Mark Webber started making one fastest lap after another gaining up to 1.5sec per lap. He finally stopped on lap 43 (!!!). He rejoined in P1 over 8sec ahead of Alonso, who has been asking his team if Webber is behind him, only to get disappointed by the answer he got. The perfect driving performed by Mark Webber, showed that the super soft component could last much longer than expected, and, also, that all drivers that stopped as soon as the safety car was deployed, have not made the wisest decision. Also we can see that The Red Bull has done a great job with its cars, as they wear their tyres slowly and smoothly.
Sebastian Vettel started his own chase, and got right behind Alonso. The battle for the second place has been great. Another battle we have witnessed was that between Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barichello for the tenth place. After many laps of fighting, the Brazilian made his move on the German, who edged him to the pit wall. He just missed the wall and completed his overtaking in an impressive, though frightening, way.
The race ended with Mark Webber on top, followed by Fernando Alonso who managed to keep Sebastian Vettel behind him. Massa took fourth, while the amazing Russian, Vitaly Petrov took the fifth place.
