Double world champion Fernando Alonso, had stated that it would be very hard to see himself winning podiums this season, and that winnings were out of the question. However he surprised everybody, by winning the first Singapore grand prix. A one pit stop strategy, along with Alonso's capability and a bit of luck, helped him win his first grand prix this season.
Nico Rosberg was second, which was another surprise considering his other results this season, with Lewis Hamilton feeling the podium in 3rd place. Felipe Massa started from the first place, and everything showed that he had lots of chances in winning the race as his pace was fast enough. But an accident coused him to fall in the last place, after he triedto go out of the pits, while still refueling. When the mechanics were able to pull the fuel pipe from Massa's Ferrari, was already too late. Massa's race was destroyed and he finished 13th, away from the points. His teammate Kimi Raikkonen, crushed his Ferrari and retired from the race, which confirmed a disastrous race for the Italian team.
Timo Glock finished in 4th place, wth Sebastian Vettel continuing his good results, as he finished behind Glock, in 5th place. Nick Heidfeld was 6th, but his teammate Robert Kubica could not get in the points, after he suffered a 10 second penalty for refueling while safety car was in the circuit. David Coulthard in 7th and Kazuki Nakajima in 8th place completed the first eight.
Lewis Hamilton now raised the gap between him and Felipe Massa from one point to seven, and with his other main rivals Kimi Raikkonen and Robert Kubica finishing away from the points, Lewis Hamilton got one step closer to the title. Three more races before the end of the championship and everything can happen.
