McLaren's Jenson Button has claimed an amazing and unexpected victory in Canada, in the last laps of the Grand Prix, proving that Vettel can be defeated. After several pit stops, a drive through penalty and a very difficult and dangerous Grand Prix, due to heavy rain conditions, the Brit finished in the 1st place after passing Sebastian Vettel, just two laps before the end of the race. Vettel finished in 2nd place with Mark Webber in 3rd place. Michael Schumacher finished in 4th place making his best finish in 2011 season.
The race started behind the safety car due to rain conditions. After 4 laps the safety car retrieved and the race started. Lewis Hamilton started being very aggressive right after the start, hiting Mark Webber in order to pass him and fighting to pass Michael Schumacher just after the safety car left. Hamilton chrashed onto the barriers also after trying to pass Jenson Button and retired from the race in lap 8, as button got a drive through penalty. A safety car was out again due to that.
In lap 25 the race was stopped due to heavy rain which made it impossible to drive. The race was stopped for about 2 hours and continued again behind the safety car until lap35. During lap 37 Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button had a collision which resulted in Fernando Alonso retiring from the race and Button losing front tyre. He was once again forced to make another pit stop to change it. Safety car was out again due to a crash between Kamui Kobayashi and Nick Heidfeld. This helped eliminating the time differences between the drivers. During the last laps of the race Jenson Button made a magic trick getting from 4th place to 1st. He passed Mark Webber and Michael Schumacher after that, getting closer to Sebastian Vettel. Vettel made a mistake and slipped on the final lap of the race. Button took advantage of it and passed him to lead his McLaren to victory.
