Ferrari's Felipe Massa took the pole position in the first qualifying, at the new Valencia circuit. Massa was fast from the beginning of the session, as he made the fastest lap in Q1, and manage to take the pole position from Lewis Hamilton in the end with a lap of 1:38.989 seconds. Robert Kubica was third, impressing one more time, as his teammate Nick Heidfeld was 8th, one second behind.

Kimi Raikkonen seems to have lost his pace as he could only manage to take the 4th place, half a second behind his teammate Felipe Massa. Heikki Kovalainen was 5th with Sebastian Vettel in 6th place, just two tenths behind the Finn.
The new Valencia circuit is quite impressive and technical, taking place through Valencia's streets. Fernando Alonso could not impress again in his country as he could not make it to the Q3. He will start his race in 12th place after making a lap of 1:38.435 seconds in the qualifying session.
