Kubica took the pole in Bahrain

Robert Kubica left everybody speechless, as he took the pole position for Sunday's race in Bahrain. Kubica stated, after the session, that the team has made an impressive improvement, and although he did not made good times during the first and the second session of the qualifications, he manage to make a perfect lap in the final seconds of the session, demoting Felipe Massa to the second place. It was kind of obvious though that the BMW team is lighter and in a different strategy, as Kubica said that they made a great effort to keep the car as light as possible. But still lighter or not Kubica made an impressive lap, of 1:33.096 and showed that he is more than able to fight for the championship alongside the Ferraris and the McLarens.

Felipe Massa was first during almost all of the session, but lost the pole position at the very end of it, to Robert Kubica. Lewis Hamilton seemed to be unaffected by his accident on Friday's practice, as he manage to make a good time and place himself third. Kimi Raikkonen completed the second row, starting from the 4th place.

Heikki Kovalainen was 5th with the second McLren and Kubica's teammate in BMW, Nick Heidfeld was 6th, more than a second slower than his teammate, something that also may mean that Kubica is indeed in a different strategy. Jarno Trulli and Nico Rosberg came 7th and 8th respectively, as Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso competed the first 10, by filling the 9th and the 10th place respectively.
