Mark Webber won the German grand prix, after starting his race from the pole., being the first formula one win in his career. The Australian had a contact with Rubens Barrichello while fighting for the first place at the start of the race, which gave him a drive-through penalty. Barrichello took the lead for a while, but in the end Mark Webber finished first. Teammate Sebastian Vettel came 2nd, closing the gap between him and Jenson Button.
Felipe Massa's 3rd place was unexpected, as a Ferrari is rarely in the podium this season. Nico Rosberg was 4th with the Brawn's being in 5th and 6th place. Barrichello was in front of Button almost during all the race but one of the usual "strategic mistakes" made him finish behind behind Jenson Button in the 6th place. Fernando Alonso was 7th and Heikki Kovalainen took the last point.
Lewis Hamilton made a spectacular start and almost got the first place in the first turn but a mistake made and a mechanical problem after that made him lose a lot of time and finally finished in 18th place. Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Bourdais did not finish the race.
